Community Guidelines

Lingobelle is a place for women to meet, talk and learn together. These are our core principles:
Core principles
Friendship firstLingobelle is about establishing real connections with real people. There are no bots or AI chats. Rather, it is for women who are invested in their own learning journey and those of other women. Lingobelle provides the forum for friendships to develop through written messaging before facilitating one-to-one calls. So, you never have to speak to complete strangers.
ReciprocityMeaning you split the messaging and chats, so each language is featured. In that way, you give as much as you get, and you both grow.
Languages for real lifeInteracting with native speakers exposes language learners to how the language actually sounds and the words that are spoken in practice. Cross-border friendships take you beyond a textbook: pick up idioms, slang, and the natural flow of conversation in your target language(s).
Active learningLingobelle encourages users into active language learning. There are plenty of sources of input in your language learning: books, shows, music for example. But oftentimes it is more difficult and we struggle at the point of production. Use your Scrapbook to practice writing in your target language(s). Post as frequently as you like. Make voice recordings for your feed and practice your speaking directly with other Belles.
Women onlyLingobelle is for women only. It is intended as a safe space. A restorative environment, free from harassment or unwanted advances. Where women are not judged or shamed or confined. Rather it is a collaborative space where it is understood that to "Help one another is part of the religion of sisterhood."Louisa May Alcott, Little Women
Guidelines
These are the things we believe in and are guidelines for Belles to follow. By being here, you agree to them.
1
Be kind. Treat every Belle the way you would treat a friend. In conversation, be encouraging and offer corrections or feedback light-heartedly and with kindness.
2
Be yourself. Create your account in your own name (one account per person) and use your own photos and media to build a profile that is genuinely you.
3
Keep confidence. What is said in a chat or a memory box belongs to you and the other Belle. Do not repost another Belle's words, photos, voice notes or details anywhere else without express permission.
4
Lingobelle is not a dating app. There should be no flirting and no romantic or sexual approaches. Do not ask other Belles for photos.
5
No selling and no poaching. No adverts, spam, links, schemes, or asking anyone for money. Do not use Lingobelle or its name, branding, logo or other intellectual property to gather its members onto another app, service, platform or in-person event.
6
Look after each other. If you feel uncomfortable or think another user may be in breach of these Community Guidelines, use the Block or Report functions. Your report comes to us privately. Lingobelle does not read or moderate one-to-one chats or posts on the main feed. Rather we respond to Reports from Lingobelle users.
Unacceptable Conduct
Conduct which is deemed by Lingobelle to be unacceptable will be removed and could potentially lead to your account becoming temporarily suspended or blocked indefinitely. Such conduct includes, but is not limited to, the following non-exhaustive list:
1
Behaviour which contravenes the Lingobelle principles or Community Guidelines above.
2
Sexual behaviour. Lingobelle does not permit sexual content, including live or photographic nudity (including digitally enhanced or AI created images), innuendo or other sexual talk, speech or writing. Sending anyone an unsolicited intimate image, including a photograph of genitals, is a criminal offence in the UK. Sharing, or threatening to share, anyone's intimate images is also a criminal offence in the UK.
3
Lingobelle does not permit bullying, harassment, threats, intimidation, stalking, or repeated contact after someone has asked you to stop.
4
Do not post anyone's private information.
5
Lingobelle does not permit hate speech or condone actions motivated by race, nationality, religion, disability, sexuality, age and so on. "Banter" is not accepted here as a justification for such behaviour.
6
Lingobelle is for adults over the age of 18. Any material, post or image that we become aware of that could potentially amount to child sexual abuse material will be sent to Police.
7
Do not engage in fraud, scams, phishing, the promotion of fake investments, or crypto. Do not ask other users for money or gift cards. If a Belle ever asks you for money, do not agree and use the Report feature.
8
Contributions on Lingobelle which are or could be construed as violent, threatening, encouraging self-harm, gory or graphic in any way are prohibited and will be removed. If you are struggling, please talk to someone: your GP, local healthcare provider, or Samaritans on 116 123 or 0330 094 5717. Calls are free and lines are open 24 hours.
9
No fake accounts. No pretending to be someone else, no second accounts to get around a block or a removal.
10
Do not misuse the Report function. It exists with the aim of keeping users safe. Reporting someone without legitimate belief in a breach of the Lingobelle core principles or Guidelines, or without there having been Unacceptable Conduct, is a breach of these Guidelines.
Reporting
Use the Report or Block functions if you have concerns that another user may be in breach of these Guidelines. Please provide as much information or evidence as you can. Be reassured that any such actions are made in confidence and reach our team privately.
Sanctions for breach can include but may not be limited to a reminder of the Guidelines, suspension or termination of a user's account. Any report involving a child, threat or intimate image will be treated as urgent. All other reports will be addressed as quickly as possible. If we at Lingobelle suspect that a crime has been committed, we will make a report to the Police.
If we remove a post or entry made by you or restrict your account, we will inform you of the action taken and why. You may appeal against our decision by email, but we reserve the right to persist with any sanctions deemed by us to be necessary and appropriate.
Beyond the App
Most Belles will never meet in person. But if a friendship does lead there, we advise you (without the assumption of any liability) to take the same care you would when meeting anyone new. For example:
- Do not accept offers of accommodation.
- Choose somewhere public to meet.
- Tell someone where you are going and when you will be back. Or ideally go with someone you already know.
- Share a location with a friend.
- Go at the pace that feels right. If something feels wrong, leave.
For the avoidance of any doubt, we do not vouch for any user of Lingobelle. We do not perform background checks, nor do we vet or verify our members are who they say they are. Meeting up with another user of Lingobelle in person is done so entirely at your own risk.
